Bingo for dialogue
The idea behind bingo is to develop dialogue skills one skill at a time. It can be used in a group and community in many different ways— flipped, embedded in working methods, or as a deeper content for developing interaction skills. The aim is to encourage each participant to explore their own typical ways of interacting and to develop them in a more dialogic direction. The use of bingo helps the learning community to group together and support various group processes, including collaborative learning skills.
Feel free to apply, and it is even recommended.

How to use:
The first step is to become aware of what all dialogue competences are and what they consist of. This can be done by distributing the bingo as a pre-material to the participants or by opening up the whole thing in an online learning situation.
The second step is to instruct everyone to examine the bingo squares from the perspective of their current areas of competence development (1-3 squares). This can be instructed to the participants as a pre-assignment or done together with the group at the beginning of the session/lesson.
Thirdly, it is important to hear everyone’s thinking behind the chosen development points. A good guiding question is “In a few sentences, explain why you chose these particular dialogue skills”.
The fourth step is to practise the chosen skills. The key is to instruct the participant to incorporate the chosen dialogue sub-skill into their own work in the group, to explore what it means for their own practice, what needs to change, etc.
If the theme is to develop interaction skills towards dialogue skills, the bingo completed by the group can be used as a basis for further practice of the different sub-skills.
Finally, it is important to do a reflection. To return to the bingo and the needs for development. Good guiding questions are e.g. What did you observe about yourself / the group when applying the sub-skills? What did you learn? What was challenging? Where do you want to improve?
Dialogical methods by Helena Aarnio (2012)
The dialogical methods are tools for developing dialogical competence and learning and creating knowledge through dialogue. The methods can be used in various ways in diverse situations and contexts where people engage in dialogue, learning, and creating knowledge collaboratively. With the help of the methods, collaborative thinking and work will become more successful.
